Ancient Chinese Porcelain, Reinvented with Technology

Dehua white porcelain, known in Europe as “Blanc de Chine,” is one of China’s most iconic ceramic traditions. Originating in Fujian during the Song–Yuan period (10th–14th century) and reaching its height in the Ming dynasty (16th–17th century), it is prized for its exceptionally pure clay and thick, luminous glaze.

The result is a warm, ivory-white material with a subtle, jade-like quality. Its slight translucency when held to the light and its “warm white” character distinguish it from other porcelains and profoundly influenced European ceramic art.
